Notice

If you wish to commence your capstone project during the current semester, you are required to nominate your preferred capstone project committee chairperson by August 22, 2015. If you fail to nominate your capstone project chairperson by the aforesaid deadline, your registration for capstone project for the current semester will be revoked.

If you need assistance to select a capstone project committee chairperson, you can seek advise from your academic adviser or the field of study coordinator.

Once you have selected a capstone project committee chair person, share the details of the person and your capstone project by registering at http://gg.gg/capstone2015. This will be considered as your official nomination of your capstone project committee chairperson.

Capstone Project

1.      Students register for capstone project credits at the start of the fourth year, after consultation with their academic advisors.

2.      Students should appoint a committee within two weeks from the commencement date of the semester. If students fail to meet the deadline of two weeks to appoint the committee, the Capstone Project enrollment will be retracted.

3.      The work must be carried out under the supervision of the academic advisor or at another location approved by the advisor and field of study coordinator.

4.      A report in the AIT thesis format must be submitted at the end of each semester in which the student has registered for project credits. Students are encouraged to produce a report of publishable quality using excellent technical English.

5.      Students must defend the project work in an oral examination before an examination committee at the end of each semester in which the student registers for project credits. The committee will jointly assign a grade for the project work.

6.      If the advisor agrees to set up a group project involving several students, each student will be individually evaluated.  This means that the student needs to clearly define the different complementary responsibilities of each team member, and each member of the project must do separate proposal, midway, and final defenses with separate documents.

7.      A copy of the project report in prescribed format must be received by the committee and undergraduate program office at least seven days before the presentation.

Capstone Project Committee

A committee to supervise the capstone project shall be appointed by the field of study coordinator for each student enrolling in capstone project credits for the first time. This normally occurs at the beginning of the fourth year (seventh semester). The committee is responsible for specifying project scope and direction and for supervising project execution. The committee may require the student to take particular courses that complement the project work.

Appointment of Capstone project committee should be within two weeks from the beginning of the semester. Failing to appoint the committee on time will automatically invalidate the capstone project enrollment

In case that the chairperson of the Capstone Project Examination Committee is an Adjunct faculty member, a full time AIT faculty member should be appointed as Co-Chair and another faculty to serve as member of the committee.

The committee must consist of at least two members, among whom one is the chairperson. The chairperson of a project examination committee must be a full-time or adjunct faculty member of AIT. In the case that the chairperson of the committee is an adjunct faculty member, a full time AIT faculty member should be appointed as a co-chair. Normally, the chair and at least one member of the committee will be faculty members from the school in which the student is enrolled. With the approval of the school Dean, the chair may come from another school under the condition that a co-chairperson is appointed from the school in which the student is enrolled. Where additional expertise is required, it can be sought without commitment to committee membership, or an external expert may be appointed as a member of the committee (see below). The school Dean has the prerogative, after consultation with the student's academic advisor and field of study coordinator, to revise the membership of a project examination committee.
